Article II: The Object The object of the Union University Judo Club shall be to promote the study and practice of Classical Judo for the benefit of students, staff, and faculty at Union University and in so doing to: Promote professionalism among practicing Judokas at Union University Promote superior scholarship as fundamental to intellectual achievement Develop nationally competitive Judokas Act in accordance with the United States Judo Associations testing regimen and policies. Article III: Membership Membership privileges shall be assigned by classification Active or full membership shall be composed entirely of faculty, students, and staff of Union University. Active members shall be afforded all rights and privileges. Inactive membership is composed of any former practitioner who paid dues but did not train during the semester. This person will not have the right to vote. Qualifications for Membership Any student, faculty, or staff member of Union University who is interested in the study and promotion of ethical martial arts training shall be eligible for membership. Individuals must be in good financial standing with the Union University Judo Club to maintain membership Individuals must be in sufficient mental and physical condition to ensure the safety of the individual and other club members while participating in club activities. All members must sign a medical release form provided by Union University to participate. Revocation of Membership Any member, officer, or instructor of this organization who fails to adhere to the terms of this constitution and its by-laws may be suspended or expelled by a two-thirds majority of members voting in person or by prior proxy. Any member, officer, or instructor of this organization who fails to maintain and adhere to the ethics and code of behavior incumbent upon any student of the martial arts may be suspended or expelled by a two-thirds majority vote of members voting in person or by prior proxy. Martial Ethics: No fighting outside of the sanctioned matches is allowed. Uniform or gear abuse is not allowed. Uniforms may only be worn during training times, and not outside of the respective training building. Suspended members will not be allowed to participate in any club activities or to hold any club office. Article IV: Officers This organization shall be governed by its constitution and by-laws. All executive powers of the Union University Judo Club shall be vested in an Executive Board comprised of an Instructor, a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary/Treasurer, and Recruiting Vice-President. These officers shall be elected at the beginning of each fall semester and shall serve for a term of one year. These officers shall be elected by active members of the Union University Judo Club. Officers in good standing shall be eligible for reelection without limit. Only active members of the club shall be eligible for election to an executive office. 3. Duties and Powers of the Office Instructor: The instructor is to teach/coach the students in the ways of Judo. The instructor is to be the contact for the United States Judo Association The instructor is to locate tournaments, and bring in visiting masters for seminars. Upon request, club instructors will be expected to provide evidence of adherence to at least one of the following requirements: A club instructor must hold a documented black belt or black belt candidacy rank in a national or international martial arts organization. Further, the club instructor must be able to provide written authorization from the governing body of a national or international martial arts organization that will permit the instructor to both train students and confer rank on his or her students. A club instructor must posses a relevant and recognized instructor status in a national or international martial arts association. In absence of any qualified black belt instructors within the Union University Judo Club, an otherwise unqualified club instructor can obtain limited authorization to teach and confer rank from the governing body of the national or international organization of which he/she is a member. President The president will preside over all meetings and club functions. The president will establish executive committees, prescribe their purpose, and vest in them any portion of the presidential powers. The president will initiate all club activities and functions, either directly or through an appointed committee. Vice President The vice president will assist the president in the execution of the duties of the presidential office. The vice president will assume the duties of the president in the event of the presidential resignation, removal, or absence from office. The vice president will preside over all committees. Secretary/Treasurer The secretary/treasurer will take and preserve accurate minutes of all meetings. The secretary/treasurer will conduct all correspondence and handle club announcements. The secretary/treasurer will maintain accurate financial records. The secretary/treasurer will transact all monetary exchanges concerning the club, including the collection of dues The secretary/treasurer will prepare an annual budget The secretary/treasurer will maintain accurate membership records. The secretary/treasurer will file a list of instructors and officers with the Office of Student Life annually. Recruiting Vice-President The recruiter will be the mouth piece for the club The recruiter will get any publications designed, printed, and distributed. The recruiter can organize the club members to help hand out flyers or contact the student body for recruitment of new students. 4.Duties and Powers of the Executive Board At no time shall any member of the executive board exercise his/her powers and privileges in order to secure personal gain or to prevent personal loss at the expense of the welfare of the club, its membership, or any individual member. The executive board shall make all business decisions concerning the club by the means of a majority vote of the executive officers voting in person or by prior proxy. 5.Removal of an Officer from Office An officer may, at any time, remove himself/herself from office An officer found to be in violation of this constitution or its by-laws shall be removed from office. Article V: Meetings 1. Meetings shall be conducted according to the procedures set forth in the Roberts Rules of Order. 2. Any member of the executive board shall be able to call a meeting 3. Once called, meetings shall be scheduled and convened in a timely manner 4. The membership shall be afforded adequate and timely notification of all scheduled meetings. Article VI: Judo Club Advisor The advisor shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Union University Judo Club and its Council. He or she will not have voting privileges on the Judo Club Council but shall have the same ability to speak at meetings as collegiate officers and delegates. Article VII: Committees Standing committees and special officers deemed necessary to carry out the work of the Union University Judo Club Council shall be appointed by its Executive Board to serve during the term of the Board which appoints them. Article VIII: Amendments This Constitution may be amended by majority vote of the Union University Judo Club Council, provided sufficient notice of the proposed amendment has been submitted during the preceding regular Judo Club Council meetings.
