Sorority Recruitment

Greek Life

On behalf of the Panhellenic Community we are so excited that you have decided to investigate "Going Greek!" Union University's College Panhellenic Association consists of 3 chapters (Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Delta, and Chi Omega) all offering diverse and individual experiences. We are confident that every Union University woman can find a house to call a home. Being a part of Greek Life offers a unique experience for members that is different from other organizations on campus. Each sorority is involved in different campus events throughout the year, hosts social events, raises money for their inter/national philanthropy, engages with community constituents, maintains high academic standards, and develops members in a personal, holistic, and Christ-centered manner.

Recruitment (August 27–31, 2024)

We hope that you are looking forward to attending Union University and participating in recruitment. Union University has three National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities on campus and all are committed to providing a wide variety of opportunities for their members. Beyond being a social organization, sororities also help members develop leadership & communication skills. They also allow members to make great contributions to the community.

Formal Recruitment is a time for you to decide if you would like to become part of the Greek community at Union University. Joining a sorority should be an individual decision, one that is made without influence from others. Whether you join a sorority or not, fall Formal Recruitment week will be a time for making new friends and beginning a new and exciting part of your life. While we believe that Greek life enhances opportunities for members, please keep in mind that being part of a sorority is not a prerequisite to a 海角乱伦社区 life at Union. There are many opportunities to get involved across campus. Recruitment is open to all full-time undergraduate women accepted to Union University or presently enrolled at Union University.

Policies are in place to make sure every woman is given the chance to make her own decision. These policies are aimed at creating an unbiased environment for all Potential New Members (PNM). Below you will find a link to these policies (see Recruitment Rules). All PNMs going through the Recruitment process will receive a Recruitment Guide. Check out this year's Recruitment Guide below.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment is a time each year set aside for the sororities on Union's campus to select new members. Recruitment is an exciting week filled with opportunities to explore Greek Life through a series of events. These events are designed to enable you to become comfortable with members of each sorority and to discover the uniqueness of each house. The members of each chapter are eager to get to know you. Being nervous is completely normal, but remember that the sorority members want to get to know you - so just relax and be yourself!

The week's events consist of personalized conversations with sorority members and various presentations that will help you learn about each chapter at Union and Greek Life as a whole. At the end of the week, you will have the opportunity to express your desire to join a sorority. However, there is no pressure to join because we understand that Greek Life is not for everyone! Think of recruitment as an opportunity to meet incredible women and learn more about the avenues to get involved in campus life.

Why should I join a sorority at Union?
Sisterhood is one of the unique aspects of Greek life that sets it apart from other organizations or clubs on campus. Joining a sorority allows you to make a large group of new friends who are there to support, mentor, and make memories with you. The friendships that are formed within a sisterhood are lifelong.

Greek life at Union is different from that of the "stereotypical" Greek life that you may have heard about at other schools. All sororities abide by all rules set forth by Union, which includes no alcohol or tobacco at any Greek or university sponsored event. Most sisterhoods have internal Bible studies and attend a variety of churches around Jackson together. The women in each of the sororities have a heart for God and are eager to walk alongside you in your college journey.

How much does it cost to participate in recruitment?
The cost to participate in Panhellenic Recruitment is $40.

Do I have to register to participate in Panhellenic Recruitment?
Yes, to participate in recruitment, you must complete the registration form and pay the $40 registration fee (see above). The deadline is August 28, 2023 at 10 a.m.

If I participate in recruitment, do I have to join a sorority?
No, just because you participate in recruitment does not mean that you have to join a sorority. Recruitment is a wonderful opportunity to meet other women your age who share similar interests. The sororities want you to make the decision to join (or not to join) that is best for you!

What should I wear to the parties?
Below are several suggestions on what to wear to the recruitment parties. Please keep in mind that the sororities do not choose their new members on what you wear. It is important that you dress comfortably and be yourself! Don't stress over what you wear each night! The members at the houses want to get to know you for who are and not what you wear.

We do, however, ask that you dress appropriately during recruitment (don't wear skirts or dresses that are too short or cut too low). This will not leave a desirable impression on the chapters and it's probably not how you want to be remembered.

  • Values Night: Values Night is the first round of parties when you will have the opportunity to personally meet and talk to members of the sororities. Each potential new member will receive a t-shirt to wear on this night of recruitment. See Panhellenic Recruitment Guide above for more information on what to wear for Values Night.
  • Philanthropy Night: Philanthropy Night is the second round of parties for the week. Like Values night, potential new members typically wear skirts, sundresses, or nice dress pants.
  • Preference Night: The Preference party round is the last evening of recruitment and is often the "dressiest" evening of the week. Dresses and skirts are typically worn on this night. A nice dress/skirt that you might wear to church would be appropriate.

Parents FAQ

Dear Parents,

We are so excited that your daughter is at Union! Thank you for allowing her to investigate more about our sororities on campus. On behalf of the Panhellenic Council we look forward to getting to know her better and offering support throughout her time in college. We know that this is a big decision and your opinion is very important as she seeks to find a family away from home. Please explore our website and get to know the many benefits of joining a sorority. In addition to being a social organization, sororities also offer members the opportunity to develop important leadership and communication skills as well as be active advocates for various philanthropies in the community. Our sororities are also committed to holding regular bible studies and helping their members grow in their relationship with Christ.

While we are proud of our Greek community, we also know that being a part of a sorority is not for everyone. There are many ways to get involved in campus life at Union and for some, being in a sorority might be the perfect way to get involved. For others, it might involve joining another campus organization, getting involved in GO Trips, intramurals, or participating in the many events offered weekly on our campus. Either way, we look forward to walking alongside your daughter. We are excited for her to participate in the recruitment process and find out if being a part of this community is a good fit for her.

Why should my student join a sorority?
Joining a sorority gives your student an opportunity to get plugged in immediately upon arriving at school. It also gives students the opportunity to meet new women and have a great support system that is around them during and after their college experience.

What are the costs associated with joining a chapter?
Each sorority chapter costs vary widely. Before recruitment begins, your student will receive a packet of information and a breakdown of fees is included in that information. Your student is also encouraged to ask chapters about their specific costs during a round of recruitment.

What will my student do while in Sorority Life?
The chapters all offer a variety of programs and events, weekly meetings, executive positions, academic programs, community service programs, workshops, philanthropic events, and school activities. Time commitments vary depending upon the chapter and how involved a student becomes in the chapter. Inevitably, the most your student invests in a chapter, the more she will gain from the experience. There will be opportunities for attending leadership and professional development programs, socials, sporting events, cultural enrichment activities, and alumni visits.

Is hazing a concern?
Union University has no tolerance for hazing. To learn more, review the Anti-Hazing Guide.
